I swear I heard the word fruforah uttered by some englishman somewhere. I can almost here the voice. “All this fruforah is for nothing!” However, no search string that I’ve tried will give me a quote or anything like the word fruforah, even when I include the word brouhaha, which should have a synonymous meaning. It isn’t in the thesaurus either, so it isn’t a word. Well, it is now.
Take that, copyeditors!
…I always thought it was foofaraw??
I’ve heard that one too. Foofaraw is a legitimate slang word, if any slang can be said to be legitimate. The discovery that I was most fascinated by while looking for the word fruforah was the dictionary entry showing that brouhaha is a legitimate (non-slang) word in another language. However, there’s no joke to tell in order to link the dictionary entry for brouhaha, if the word you wanted to use already existed. Then I’m just engaging in foofaraw about some arcane word in the english language. 😉
