“The Select Committee also has a good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States,” the committee wrote in a filing submitted in U.S. District Court in the Central District of California.
The 221-page filing marks the committee’s most formal effort to link the former president to a federal crime, though the actual import of the filing is not clear. Lawmakers do not have the power to bring criminal charges on their own and can only make a referral to the Justice Department. The department has been investigating last year’s riot, but it has not given any indication that it is considering seeking charges against Trump.

I’ve been waiting for them to go find evidence of his crimes since 1980. I’ve suspected that he was engaging in criminal activity since that time and I was just as a high school student interested in architecture and living in small town Texas. It was obvious to me then, and it has been a source of irritation for me personally every time anyone brings his name up in my presence for all that time.
The most casual perusal of his tax returns should have caused dumpster fires outside of any IRS office in the country and yet no one seemed interested in his crimes until long after he won the election for President; won the election even though he lost the popular vote (name any other country that claims democracy where this can happen) by several million votes. Then he causes an insurrection because he lost his second election by seven million votes (twice as many as the first election) in his criminal attempt to maintain his presence in an office that he had no right to hold in the first place due to his multiple criminal enterprises that no one even tried to take down. Had no right to hold due to his incitements to riot that started during his first campaign and should have been prosecuted then.
Now. NOW they want to throw the book at him and I say it’s about time. If only they had done something forty years ago, we wouldn’t be here now. Here’s an article I wrote on this subject in 2017:
