Plague of Stupid

Under FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler, the agency had expanded and modernized Lifeline to help make high-speed internet access more affordable to people in low-income communities around the country. By revoking the status of these nine providers, Pai took away the connections of 17,500 customers that one of these providers was already serving, and stalled imminent service from the other eight.

The FCC’s move is exactly the opposite of what we should be advocating for. Broadband must be rolled out into the country just as electricity and telephone lines were. If the corporations cannot be bothered to do the work without being compelled to, the government will simply have to step in and offer compulsion on the matter. We will never see a let up in the plague of stupid in this country if we don’t give access to information to the people who most need it.
